Private or “Independent” Adoption

In Saskatchewan, there are currently no licensed private adoption agencies. A private or ‘independent” adoption is still possible as in most cases, the expectant parent(s) find someone they know to adopt their child.

A home study is required for the adoptive parents and it’s conducted by an independent practitioner approved by the Ministry of Social Services. This type of adoption is usually processed through the court with the assistance of lawyers.
